We’ve all heard it: “I got Downtown and there was no parking.”
In a Downtown that boasts some 48,000 (!!!) spaces, that just can’t be true.
What people likely mean is, “I got Downtown and didn’t understand how to park.”
So, let’s help your friends, visitors, relatives become Downtown parking pros…
The best way to alleviate parking-associated fear is to make it:
Easy & Accessible: Let customers know their options beforehand…
- You can link these maps on your website:
- City-Owned Parking Ramps
- Privately Owned Parking Options
- Metered Spaces
- Experience GR Parking Map (You can print this!)
- There’s an app for that: Share links to third-party parking apps like…
- Parkopedia
- ParkMe
- Spotter – developed by a local high school student!
Inexpensive: Nobody wants to pay for parking (even though free parking has a high cost), help customers get a good deal by…
- Informing them the Monroe Center Ramp offers free parking for 60 minutes before 6 PM.
- Reminding them about the MOTU App so they can conveniently pay for parking (and hopefully avoid tickets!).
- Encouraging them to park in a DASH lot; they’re inexpensive and the DASH is free!
Avoid parking altogether:
- Customers can utilize public transportation options, like:
- The Silver Line, Laker Line and Rapid City Bus.
- Pro tip: There’s an app for that too! The My Stop App and the Transit App show stop locations and tracks buses in real-time.
- And… Customers can always use rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft.
Don’t Forget: Other mobility options once you’re Downtown, like…
- Scooters and e-bikes.
- Free May Mobility Cars.
- The DASH, a free shuttle to help people move around Downtown more easily.
- Walking!
Keep your friends and family “in the know” by sharing these resources because, after all, knowledge is power.
